SARS-CoV-2 shedding and seroconversion among passengers quarantined after disembarking a cruise ship: a case series

Background – A cruise ship is a closed-off environment that simulates the basic functioning of a city in terms of living conditions and interpersonal interactions. Thus, the Diamond Princess cruise ship, which was quarantined because of an onboard outbreak of COVID-19 in February, 2020, provides an opportunity to define the shedding pattern of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and patient antibody responses before and after the onset of symptoms.

Essais cliniques du vaccin contre le COVID-19 : la revue The Lancet parle des résultats prometteurs

The Lancet, la revue médicale mondialement connue, a publié le 22 mai le résultat d’un essai du vaccin contre le COVID-19 mis au point par la Chine, premier vaccin du genre à atteindre la phase 1 d’essai clinique. Le test effectué par 21 chercheurs chinois a révélé que le vaccin à adénovirus COVID-19 vectorisé (Ad5-nCov) était sûr, bien toléré par les patients et capable de produire une réponse immunitaire contre le SRAS-CoV-2 chez l’être humain.

Une étude du Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology (東京大学 先端科学技術研究センター) de l’Université de Tokyo, présentée en visioconférence le 15 mai 2020 et en cours d’évaluation auprès de la revue médicale The Lancet, estime que le faible taux de décès dus à la covid-19 au Japon pourrait s’expliquer par la présence antérieure d’anticorps IgG chez de nombreux Japonais, anticorps qui auraient été acquis lors de précédentes épidémies de coronavirus dans les années 2000 (SARS, MERS).


The experiences of health-care providers during the COVID-19 crisis in China: a qualitative study

In the early stages of the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Hubei, China, the local health-care system was overwhelmed. Physicians and nurses who had no infectious disease expertise were recruited to provide care to patients with COVID-19. To our knowledge, no studies on their experiences of combating COVID-19 have been published. We aimed to describe the experiences of these health-care providers in the early stages of the outbreak.

Effect of changing case definitions for COVID-19 on the epidemic curve and transmission parameters in mainland China: a modelling study

When a new infectious disease emerges, appropriate case definitions are important for clinical diagnosis and for public health surveillance. Tracking case numbers over time is important to establish the speed of spread and the effectiveness of interventions. We aimed to assess whether changes in case definitions affected inferences on the transmission dynamics of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in China.

Sustaining containment of COVID-19 in China

On April 8, China lifted its 76-day lockdown of Wuhan, with trains and flights resumed and highways reopened. Shanghai will reopen its schools for many students from April 27. Given that most new COVID-19 cases in China are imported, the country is reopening businesses and schools gradually and cautiously.


COVID-19: the gendered impacts of the outbreak

Policies and public health efforts have not addressed the gendered impacts of disease outbreaks. The response to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) appears no different. We are not aware of any gender analysis of the outbreak by global health institutions or governments in affected countries or in preparedness phases. Recognising the extent to which disease outbreaks affect women and men differently is a fundamental step to understanding the primary and secondary effects of a health emergency on different individuals and communities, and for creating effective, equitable policies and interventions.
